Current Projects
Where each line of the institute's research currently stands, and what comes next. Completed work is listed on the Publications page; this page describes work in progress and the directions the institute has committed to.
Sulcus vocalis
Following the clinical characterisation of type II sulcus, an animal model, and a deep-learning diagnostic method, the next step is validation: testing whether automated diagnosis performs as well on stroboscopy recordings from other centres as on our own, and building treatment studies around the subtypes. More on this line: sulcus vocalis research.
Office-based laryngology
The institute has committed to publishing its procedure volumes and patient-reported outcomes. Work in this line tracks the outcomes of specific office procedures over time, and continues the study of how office technique is taught. More on this line: office-based laryngology research.
Laryngeal dystonia
Building on the first population study of laryngeal dystonia from Türkiye, the aim is registry-style follow-up of diagnosed patients and treatment-outcome studies for botulinum toxin injection. More on this line: laryngeal dystonia research.
Artificial intelligence in laryngology
Diagnostic models developed for stroboscopy need external datasets to prove that they generalise. Current work focuses on data sharing and external validation under appropriate ethical approval, alongside continued scholarship on the responsible use of generative AI and the quality of AI-generated patient information. More on this line: artificial intelligence research.
Joining a project
Several of these projects depend on data or cases from other centres. If your department could contribute, see Research Collaboration or write to info@istanbulvoicecenter.com.
Research and teaching, open to colleagues
Observerships, collaboration and the monthly Brief are the three ways most clinicians connect with the institute.
